A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service confirmed two fire engines were deployed during the incident, which took 20 minutes to clear.

A Tactical Aid Unit was also at the scene, which is thought to be near the Sun Inn pub.

Photos from witnesses also show police in attendance.

"At around 8.30pm today (March 8), crews were called to reports of a road traffic accident involving two vehicles on Shepley Road in Audenshaw,” a statement from the Fire and Rescue service said.

“Two fire engines from Ashton and Hyde fire stations, and a technical response unit from Ashton arrived quickly on the scene.

“A man was released from one of the vehicles and conveyed into the care of colleagues from North West Ambulance Service.

“Crews then made the scene safe and were in attendance for approximately 20 minutes".
