Man refuses to let fire crew enter property after starting blaze in back garden

A 44-year-old man has been arrested after emergency services responded to reports of a large blaze in a back garden.

The police and fire service were ushered to a property at 8am on July 22 following a report of a fire.

Fire crews were denied entry to the Liverpool home, until police arrived. Officers then proceeded to arrest a man on suspicion of arson with the intent to endanger life, criminal damage and affray.

According to Liverpool Echo, police stated: "Emergency services were called to reports of a fire in the garden of a property on Prescot Drive at 8.05am today, Thursday 22nd July.

"A 44 year-old man was detained at the scene and arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life, criminal damage and affray.

"A search of the property revealed extensive damage to windows and fixtures and fittings. Nobody was injured during the incident.

"The man is currently in custody where he will be questioned by officers."

A spokesman for a local residents' group said: "Unfortunately this is the latest in a number of incidents at this particular property. There are regular parties at the building with noise and other issues.

"The problem is that in this heat you need the windows open at night , which lets the noise in.

"Today's bonfire created a lot of smoke and led to more concern for neighbours and locals."

A spokesman for the fire service said: "MFRS was called to an incident in Prescot Drive on Thursday, 22nd July. Crews were alerted at 8.03am and on scene at 8.09am. Two engines attended.

"On arrival, firefighters found a large bonfire in a back yard area and used a high pressure hose reel to extinguish the fire.

"Merseyside Police were also in attendance. MFRS left the scene at 9.03am."

The spokesperson added that crews faced an obstruction on arrival at the property.
