Man raped woman at knifepoint hoping his victim would kill him in revenge

A man raped a woman at knifepoint in the hope that his victim would kill him in revenge, a court heard.

Gary Brand, from Perth, Scotland, had asked his victim to kill him but when she refused, he kidnapped her and subjected her to sexual assault.

The 49-year-old had allegedly known his victim for many years and had arranged to meet her after losing his job.

He had apparently confided in her about his financial position and then brandished a hunting knife and asked her to kill him.

When she tried to leave, he stopped her and held the knife to her throat before sexually assaulting her.

“This was an appalling way to behave. It was a disgraceful act. This must have been a dreadful experience,” Sheriff William Wood told him, the Daily Mail reported. “You invited her effectively to kill you. You wanted her to end your life and she refused to do that. For reasons only you can know you decided to act this way.

“You prevented her leaving, you presented a knife at her and detained her against her will. You pushed her onto a sofa and covered her mouth to prevent her crying.”

He then jailed Brand for 30 months and placed on the sex offenders register.

Apparently upon hearing that he would be placed on the register for life he said: “Life? That’s a bit harsh”.

He has also been given a non-harassment order which bans him from having any contact with his victim for five years.
