Police are investigating an apparent violent incident of cycle rage between two men on bikes on the Portway in Bristol, which saw one push the other over the railings and down onto the river embankment.
Detectives are appealing for drivers with dashcams who were going along the A4 at the time to come forward, and in particular, they want to speak to a member of the public who stopped to help the man who was attacked.
The incident happened on the shared pedestrian and cycle path between the road and the river embankment, underneath the Clifton Suspension Bridge, close to the traffic light junction with Bridge Valley Road.
The victim was a man in his 20s who was cycling along that stretch of the cycle path at around 4.40pm last Friday (February 26).
He was suddenly pushed off the path and over the railings onto the river embankment below by another cyclist - which caused him to suffer minor injuries, police said.
“The offender failed to offer any help to the victim and left the scene a short while later,” said a spokesperson for Avon and Somerset police.
“The victim was able to get back up onto the pathway and approach a member of the public for help,” she added. Police are now keen to trace that member of the public, who was approached by the victim.
“The offender is described as a white man in his late 20s, around 5ft 10ins tall, with a light brown beard, light brown hair, of skinny build,” she said.
“He was wearing clear glasses, a black beanie hat, black Levi jeans, and grey work boots with a green stripe.
His bike is described as a light grey road bike with drop handle bars, with one of the pedals broken in half,” she added.
“Police are keen to trace the member of the public approached by the victim. They would also like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident, or any drivers that could hold dashcam footage of what happened,” she said.
