Man purchases $15million winning lottery ticket in town called Luck

A man has purchased a $15million (£12.3m) winning lottery ticket in a town called Luck.

Mark Cunningham visited Wayne's Food Place in Luck, Wisconsin, US, and bought a $1 (82p) Megabucks prize ticket on January 4.

He was left astounded to find out he had won the lucky jackpot - especially in a town called Luck.

Mark said: "Dreams really do come true."

The local supermarket Wayne's Food Place, received $100,000 (£81,000) for selling the winning ticket.

Wayne's Food Plus manager Paul Wondra said he learned on Thursday morning that his store sold the winning ticket.

He described the rest of the day as a "whirlwind" as he was flooded with interviews and customers.

Paul said he had "lots of phone calls" and "lots of questions".

He said: "I was told by the Lottery people that, now you’re going to be that mecca. You sold a big ticket. You’re going to be the place to go. So far, it’s holding true.”

One of the employees at the supermarket, Taya Stokes, revealed the news of the huge jackpot has seen an increase of customers to their store.

She said dozens of customers had been lining up for hours to purchase tickets for the Mega Millions draw - with the estimated $1.35 billion (£1.11bn) jackpot still to be claimed.

Taya told NBC: "Lately it's been really crazy. A lot of people are coming in and wanting tickets from this local store."

Another employee, who didn't wish to be named, wished all the lottery players luck.

They said: "From Luck, Wisconsin, good luck to all the Mega Millions players tonight."

The Mega Millions jackpot hasn't seen a winner since October 14.

However, players have another chance to win the third-largest price in the lottery's history when it's drawn tonight.

The odds of winning the Mega Millions jackpot are slim as there is a 1 in 302.5 million chance.

The lottery win comes just days after a lucky teenager won $30,000 (£24,000) after her parents purchased a cheap lottery scratchcard as a stocking filler.

The unnamed 18-year-old from Germantown, Maryland, US, was gifted a $3 (£2.50) Peppermint Payout scratchcard by her parents on Christmas Day.

When the teenager woke up she opened up her stocking and won on three lucky scratch cards winning $1 (80p), $2 (£1.65) and $30,000 (£25,000).

The college student was delighted to discover she had won on all three - especially the jackpot.

She said: "It was shocking and a weird feeling. It was surreal."
