This is the moment a man punched an elderly woman in the head - and then acted like he was the victim.

The unprovoked attack took place in broad daylight on a street in Brooklyn, New York, on June 10.

In CCTV footage, the assailant can be seen casually walking down the street before striking the 78-year-old woman's head.

He then stops walking and turns around to face the woman, while gripping his hand.

The victim staggered to the side after being hit clutches her head, before looking at the criminal.

The man gesticulates and appears to accuse the woman of hurting him.

The victim, named as Geraldine from the Bronx, New York, has told US media how she is now scared to walk alone in her neighbourhood.

Geraldine has told how she thought she had been hit by a brick when she was shoved and blood began dripping from her head from where it hit the metal structure.
