Man punched victim in the face during homophobic attack on train

Police are investigating a homophobic attack that happened on a train.

British Transport Police (BTP) were alerted to a "homophobic assault" on a train from Cardiff to Newport at about 11pm on November 21, 2021.

Officers report that an altercation took place between two groups of passengers on the train. As the train neared Newport, a man punched the victim in the face.

When the victims' friends intervened, a man verbally abused them and made homophobic comments.

British Transport Police are looking for this man who they believe may have information which could help their investigation (British Transport Police)

A spokesperson from the BTP Police said: "Officers investigating an incident of homophobic assault on-board a train from Cardiff to Newport are today releasing this CCTV image in connection.

"Officers believe the man in the CCTV image may have information which could help their investigation.

"If you recognise him, or have any information, please contact BTP by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference 598 of 21/11/21.

"Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
