Man punched to ground in front of partner while waiting for taxi

Police are hunting a thug who punched a man to the ground who was waiting for a taxi with his partner in the Govan area on Sunday.

The 41-year-old and his partner were approached by the man, who was not known to them, on Langlands Road at Drumoyne Drive at around 6pm.

As they began to walk away, the suspect punched the man, which caused him to fall and hit his head on the pavement. He then fled in the direction of the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital .

Emergency services raced to the scene and the victim was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital with serious head and facial injuries. He has since been discharged but will require further treatment.

The suspect is described as white Scottish, in his mid to late 30s, slim to medium build, with short dark hair which was longer on top. He was wearing black rimmed glasses, a dark jumper and dark jeans.

Detective Constable Paul MacDonald from Govan CID said: “A number of members of the public stopped to assist the victim and I would appeal to them to contact us so we can gather more information regarding this incident.

“I would also urge anyone who was in the area around 6pm yesterday and saw what happened to please get in touch. In particular I would urge motorists with dashcams to check their footage in case they have managed to capture anything which could be on significance.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Govan CID via 101, quoting incident number 3295 of Sunday 31 March 2019. Alternatively you can call CRIMESTOPPERS on 0800 555 111 where details can be given in confidence."
