Man punched in the head during racist attack at bus stop

A man was punched in the head during a racist attack at a bus stop in Wirral.

The victim was walking through Birkenhead Bus Station with a friend when two men and a woman hurled abuse at them.

After running back towards the bus station he was then assaulted and punched to the head and the attack was stopped when bystanders rushed to help.

Detectives from Merseyside Police have now released an image of a man who they believe could have information that could help their investigation into the incident that happened at around 11pm on Saturday, May 22.

Detective Inspector Tom Clarke said: “We think the man pictured could have information to assist this investigation.

“We believe that the victim was targeted due to his race, which is absolutely abhorrent, and we’re determined to find those responsible and put them before the courts.

"Violence and hate crime will never be tolerated so tell us what you know.”

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "At around 11pm on Saturday 22 May, the victim was walking through Birkenhead Bus Station with a friend when two men and a woman began to shout abuse towards them.

"They ran back towards the bus station at which point he was punched to the head, before other members of the public intervened."
