Man punched in face as he tried to break up fight between teens outside pub

A man was punched in the face when he tried to break-up a fight amongst teenagers near a pub.

Police were called out to Bolton Avenue in the Westvale area of Kirkby at around 9.45pm last night ( Sunday) following reports of a fight.

A member of the public who tried to intervene was punched in the face, and treated in hospital for an injury.

When police arrived the youths involved in the incident had left the area. Locals refused to discuss the matter with officers.

A police spokesman said: "We can confirm that an investigation is underway following an assault in Kirkby last night, Sunday 20 June.

"At around 9.45pm, a report was received of a fight between youths on the corner of Bolton Avenue. A member of the public attempted to intervene and was punched to the face, receiving facial injuries. He was taken to a hospital for assessment.

"The youths made off prior to police arrival and members of the public at the scene were unwilling to speak to police.

"CCTV enquiries are ongoing."

Inspector Jennie Beck said to the ECHO : “This incident took place in a street near to the Mariners Inn pub and will have been witnessed by people in the area, or captured on CCTV, dashcam or other devices.

“Those who hold information from police can prevent violent people being removed from their communities. We understand that people can feel fearful of coming forward but all information is handled with sensitivity, whether passed to us directly or anonymously via Crimestoppers. Tell us what you know and we will take action and make your streets safer.”
