Erskine: Patrols have been increased after a man crept into homes

A Good Samaritan was left with a bloody face after he went to intervene in a street rammy.

Police revealed the 63-year-old man was punched by a thug who was embroiled in a heated altercation with two women.

It’s understood the victim heard shouting in Abernethy Drive, Linwood around 9am on Monday morning and went to investigate.

He tried to step in but was struck by a yob, who then made off leaving the victim with a gash to the head.

It was also reported the suspect may have been armed with a blade but officers are still investigating this claim.

The victim did not require medical treatment but was left badly shaken by the ordeal.

Cops are now hunting the mindless brute and urge anyone with information to come forward.

Inspector Allan O’Hare, from Johnstone, Renfrew and the villages community policing team, said: “Police are investgating after a 63-year-old man was assaulted by another man in Abernethy Drive, Linwood around 9am on Monday.

“The victim was attempting to intervene in an altercation in the street when the suspect struck him to the head, leaving him with a laceration.

“He did not require medical treatment, however, he was left badly shaken.

“We are checking for CCTV opportunties and carrying out door to door enquiries in the area.

“We also are appealing to anyone who might have witnessed the incident to come forward to police.”

Meanwhile, a 40-year-old man has been arrested over claims he racially abused a woman on her doorstep before assaulting a young boy.

Cops were called to Etterick Terrace, Johnstone around 5pm on Monday.

It is claimed the suspect hurled racist abuse at the 29-year-old woman before striking a boy,eight, with a branch in the street.

The boy sustained minor injuries to his leg in the alleged incident.

A report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal.
