Man pulled woman’s hair in bar

A PLASTERER who pulled a woman’s hair on a drunken night out has been given a community order.

Shaun Colin Evans assaulted the woman after drinking eight pints of lager at the Flagstones Tapas Restaurant in Treforest.

The 23-year-old, of Brynteg, Treharris, pleaded guilty to assault by beating at Pontypridd Magistrates’ Court on January 28.

Richard Paul, prosecuting, said: “The defendant was at the Tapas bar in Treforest on January 16. The woman victim was with some friends.

“They were at the outside area of the bar and had spoken to the male defendant earlier in the evening.

“He approached her again and became aggressive towards her.

“That resulted in the defendant poking his finger in her face – making contact with the jaw area.

“She protested at this being done, but he repeated the act before taking her by the hair and pulling her to his chest.

“Witnesses described the act as a headlock. The female shouted at this being done and tried to push him away from her. He was later arrested.

“When he was interviewed by police, he admitted to drinking eight pints of very strong lager.”

Evans had no recollection of assaulting the victim but conceded she had no reason to lie.

John Wilkins, defending, said: “My client was clearly heavily intoxicated during the incident.

“This was a very unsavoury event and he cannot recall any of it due to his level of intoxication.

“This is not the type of behaviour he normally shows, but he had just had an argument with his girlfriend.

“He is a self-employed plasterer and has his own disposable income.”

District Judge Jill Watkins said: “You are entitled to a reduced punishment for your early guilty plea.

“The aggravating features are that you were in a licensed place and assaulted another person who was just there to enjoy herself.

“You ruined her evening but there were no serious injuries.”

Evans was given a community order for three months, given a curfew which will run until February 22, was electronically tagged and ordered to pay £50 compensation and £65 costs.
