Man pulled to the ground and robbed of cash in broad daylight attack

Detectives in Irvine are appealing for the help of the public following a robbery in the town on Monday.

At around 10.30am, a 59 year old man who had just left the Thornhouse Stores on Thornhouse Avenue, Irvine, was approached from behind by a man who pulled him to the ground and then robbed him of his wallet, which contained a three figure sum of cash.

Whilst the victim was not injured as such, he was shaken and shocked following the attack.

Detective Constable Ross Kennan from the CID at Saltcoats said: "The suspect we want to speak to is described as being male, white, in his mid - to late 20s, slim build, fair hair, had stubble and was wearing a baseball cap, a dark coloured heavy jacket, white trainers and grey gloves.

"This man arrived outside the shop driving a blue coloured Honda Civic car, which had distinctive silver coloured trim on each side.  He entered the shop and then carried out the robbery when he came back out.

"We have been carrying out door to door enquiries and are reviewing CCTV footage in the area.

"We are keen to hear from anyone who may have been in or near the Thornhouse Stores around this time to get in touch if they witnessed this incident, or can help us identify either the suspect or his vehicle.

"We would also like to hear from anyone who may have captured details of this blue Honda Civic on any dash-cam fitted to their vehicle at this time."

Callers can call using the 101 number and should quote the reference number 1167 of 10 February 2020.  Anyone who wishes to pass on any information and remain anonymous can do so by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
