Man pulled out of River Aire in Leeds city centre at exactly the same spot as dramatic 2018 rescue

A man had to be dragged out of the River Aire after falling into the water in Leeds city centre in the early hours of Saturday morning.

A West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service (WYFRS) crew from Leeds Fire Station headed to the scene after receiving reports that a man had fallen into the river at 4:48am.

They arrived to find the man in the water close to Riverside Court, roughly 50 metres downstream from Leeds Bridge.

Water rescue crews helped pull him out of the water before paramedics arrived to give the man medical attention.

It is not yet known whether he suffered any injuries as a result of the fall.

Just over a year ago, a separate incident saw Lou Evans fall into the water in almost exactly the same place after a night out.

A phone call from passer-by Richard Goc was released by WYFRS, which showed just how quickly he acted to effectively save Lou's life.

When she was later reunited with Richard and the firefighters who rescued her from the water, she said: "It could have ended so differently and I'm forever indebted to them for that."

WYFRS have also released figures on the number of people killed in the region's rivers in recent years, with dozens more having to be rescued.
