Man pulled from River Clyde after dramatic police chase in Glasgow

A man has been arrested after a number of emergency services descended along the River Clyde in Glasgow .

Police were in pursuit of a vehicle after it failed to stop for officers on West Street in the city centre at around 9.20pm on Wednesday night.

Officers were then able to locate a van on Congress Way and a man was rescued from the River Clyde nearby.

Police Scotland arrested and charged a 45-year-old man in connection with drug and road traffic offences.

A spokesperson for the force added: “He is due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Thursday, December 12, 2019 and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”

Fire crews and police were set up on Lancefield Quay close to where it meets Finnieston Street to deal with the incident.

This was the second incident on the Glasgow street in just three days.

A fire engulfed a block of flats on Monday night.

While there were no casualties, residents affected by the blaze do not know when they will be able to return to their homes.

Lancefield Quay, between Hydepark Street and Elliot Street, remains closed as a result of the fire.
