Man pulled from North Sea and airlifted to hospital in dramatic rescue

A man was pulled from the North Sea in a dramatic late night rescue near a Scots village.

Emergency crews raced to Sandhaven in Aberdeenshire at around 11.30pm last night amid reports of a man in the water.

A huge effort was launched with Coastguard, local lifeboat crews and police descending on the scene.

He was rescued from the sea and airlifted to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary where his condition is said to be stable.

A statement from north-east police division reads: "Police Scotland can confirm they were in attendance at an incident in the village of Sandhaven around 11.30 pm on 04/08 in relation to a male in the water.

"Working alongside HM Coastguard, Fraserburgh Lifeboat and the Scottish Ambulance Service the male was safely recovered from the sea and airlifted to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. Where he is in a stable condition.

Jennifer Cordiner, Fraserburgh CPT Inspector added: "I would like to thank all agencies involved on your professionalism and teamwork which helped bring this potentially serious incident to a successful conclusion."
