A man was pulled from the water after emergency services descended on Canning Dock.
Fire crews were called to the waterfront at 1.29am on Tuesday and arrived on scene six minutes later. On arrival, they found a man in the water.
Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said staff members worked quickly to rescue the casualty, who was conscious and breathing.

He was then handed into the care of North West Ambulance Service who took him to hospital.
A passerby, who witnessed what happened, said he would like to give some recognition to the "amazing work" of the Liverpool ONE security team who were first responders at the scene.
A fire service spokesperson said: "Crews handed over to Merseyside Police and left the scene at 02.06."
