Man pronounced dead at the scene after being hit by a train, police confirm

Police have confirmed that a man died at the scene after a collision with a train last night.

Emergency services were called to the tracks between Leicester and Loughborough, close to Syston station at around 5.30pm.

The incident caused train services to and from Nottingham to be suspended and delayed.

The disruption was labelled 'severe' by East Midlands Trains and services were not restored until around 9pm.

Shortly afterwards British Transport Police (BTP) confirmed that a man was pronounced dead at the scene after being struck by a train, LeicestershireLive reports.

A spokeswoman said: “Officers were called to the line close to Syston, Leicestershire, on Monday, June 3, after a report that a person had been struck by a train.

“Officers from BTP attended the incident, which was reported to us shortly before 5.30pm.

"Colleagues from the ambulance service attended and a man was pronounced dead at the scene.”

She added: “The incident is currently being treated as non-suspicious and a file will be prepared for the Coroner.”
