PUNE: The social security cell of the Pimpri Chinchwad police on Monday arrested a 28-year-old estate agent, who posed as a policeman and attempted to extort Rs1 lakh from a spa owner, after threatening to implicate him in a criminal case.
The man, Vitthal Jaunjale of Marunji, told the spa owner that he had video clips of ‘illegal activities’ carried out in the spa located at Pimple Saudagar. “Jaunjale had taken Rs6,000 from the complainant and later agreed to accept Rs70,000. The owner approached police commissioner Krishna Prakash. Following this, we laid a trap at Pimple Saudagar and arrested Jaunjale, when he had come to collect money,” said inspector Devendra Chavan of the social security cell.
Jaunjale had extorted money from three other spa owners as well, the police said.
