Man pleads guilty to killing pregnant mum in horror motorway crash

A man has admitted causing the death of a pregnant mother in a horror motorway crash last month.

Frankie Julia Hough was driving southbound on the M66 at around 3.10pm on Saturday, May 13, when she suffered serious injuries in the crash. She later died in hospital.

Adil Iqbal, 22, has also admitted causing serious injuries to Frankie's son, Tommy. However, he has not yet entered a plea into the charge of causing serious injury by dangerous driving to her nephew Tobias in the incident on May 13.

Mr Iqbal, of Hope Street in Accrington, will face sentencing on July 19, where he will also be arraigned for the final count, the MEN reports.

Balbir Singh, defending, told the court: “The defendant fully accepts his culpability in this matter. He accepts driving dangerously and causing the collision which led to the death in count one.

"There’s no post mortem as such but he accepts the overwhelming likelihood that the death was the result of his driving.”

Mr Singh also argued that his client should be bailed before sentencing. This request was refused by His Honour Judge Maurice Greene, who remanded Iqbal in custody.

HHJ Greene said: “I will order a pre-sentence report, only in respect to length of sentence. The sentence will be of some significant length.

"Bearing that in mind, it seems to me that you ought to start serving that sentence now. You will be remanded in custody until July 19."

Adil Iqbal, of Hope Street in Accrington, has admitted one count of causing death by dangerous driving, and one count of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He has not yet entered a plea for a further count of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
