Man pleads guilty to fatal 2015 stabbing at graduation party near West Chicago

A man has pleaded guilty to the fatal 2015 stabbing of a 19-year-old man at a graduation party in the west suburbs.

Alberto Jimenez, 23, entered a guilty plea Tuesday to one count each of first-degree murder and aggravated battery for the death of Tehavis Price, according to a statement from the DuPage County state’s attorney’s office.

”This is the first step in obtaining justice and perhaps some measure of closure for the family and friends of Tehavis,” DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement.

Authorities were called about a fight in progress at 10:36 p.m. June 6, 2015, on Prairie Avenue in an unincorporated area near West Chicago and Glen Ellyn, prosecutors and the DuPage County sheriff’s office said.

Price was sitting with a woman in a vehicle outside the party when Jimenez opened the driver’s door and stabbed the woman in the side, prosecutors said. Price then got out of the passenger’s side and approached Jimenez, who stabbed him multiple times in the chest and upper body.

They were both taken to a hospital, where Price was pronounced dead, authorities said.

Jimenez ran after the attack but was arrested the next morning at a home in Hanover Park, the state’s attorney’s office said. He’s been in custody at the DuPage County Jail on $3 million bail since his arrest.

Jimenez, who previously lived in Glendale Heights, is due back in court Feb. 25.
