A man was injured by a tree that uprooted suddenly in Fadden on Tuesday morning, pinned under some of the branches for over an hour before he was discovered.
David Evans said he heard a crack and saw the fallen tree on Bugden Crescent at about 11.40am.
Mr Evans observed the tree from a distance but could not see the man who was stuck under it, and as the tree had not fallen across a road or footpath it did not appear there were was any cause for concern.
At about 1.30pm he saw an ambulance as well as the fire brigade arrive at the scene, and was told by neighbours that a woman at the bus stop had discovered the man.
"I think she must have heard a sound and went to investigate, because all the leaves and the branches it completely covered him, you couldn't see him until they started taking them away," Mr Evans said.
A spokesperson for ACT Emergency Services Agency confirmed that ACT Ambulance Services and Fire and Rescue responded to a report of a patient stuck under the branches of a tree on Tuesday morning.
"They were under those branches for over an hour," the spokesperson said.
"[The ambulance service] and Fire and Rescue responded and then they were transported in a stable condition to hospital."
Mr Evans said the unlikely event had reminded him to "investigate things" further.
"You never know when something sudden like that is going to occur."
