Man on trial tells jury 'I did not sexually abuse 13-year-old girl'

A man denied having sexual activity with a youngster.

Brandon Weyman said he thought a teenage girl he chatted to was 17.

He denied doing anything inappropriate with her and said he ignored her when he was told she was actually 13.

Weyman, 26, of Berwick Lane in Hallen, denies sexual activity with a child, meeting a child following sexual grooming and attempting to meet a child following sexual grooming.

He told a jury the girl approached him and they chatted.

He said they also chatted on social media.

Weyman told Bristol Crown Court: "As far as I was concerned she was 17 and 18 in a week's time."

He denied taking the complainant off in a 4x4 vehicle, adding that he didn't have access to a car.

He also denied trying to kiss her or pushing his private parts against her.

Weyman said there came a time when someone told him the girl was aged 13.

He told the jury: "I felt shocked.

"I didn't expect it.

"My reaction was to stay away from her.

"I didn't want to talk to her.

"After that I had no contact with her.

"She used to walk past me and stuff but I used to ignore her."

Weyman added that his mum asked the girl about rumours circulating, and the girl said it was untrue she had slept with Weyman.

It is the prosecution's case that Weyman told the 13-year-old she was "gorgeous" and treated her to cannabis and gifts.

The court has heard she told police he made sexual advances to her before she got "paralytic" and woke up beside him without any clothes on.

The case continues.
