Man on roof in Jesmond brought to safety by emergency services

An incident involving a man on a roof in Jesmond has ended positively after the man was finally brought down to safety.

Police responded to the concern at Holly Avenue just before 4pm this evening after reports came through that a man in an agitated state had climbed onto a roof.

Emergency services including police, fire and ambulance attended the incident which ended just before 6pm.

The man was brought to safety and left the scene with the fire crew.

Streets around the area suffered significant disruption due to this incident but the roads surrounding Holly Avenue are now clear as emergency vehicles have now left.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said:

“Shortly before 3.45pm today (Thursday) officers received a report of a male in an agitated state who had climbed onto the roof of an address on Holly Avenue, Jesmond."

The statement, given before he was brought down, added: “Emergency services are at the scene and are speaking to the male in question. Members of the public are asked to avoid congregating in the area as officers look to bring the incident to a swift and safe outcome.”

A spokeswoman for the North East Ambulance Service said:

"We were called to the incident on Holly Avenue at 15.54pm, and we are still on the scene."
