A Chicago man on horseback was arrested after he led police on a gallop-speed chase along a major highway.

Adam Hollingsworth, known in the city as the ‘Dreadhead Cowboy’, caused rush hour chaos as he rode his steed along the city’s busy Dan Ryan Expressway.

Mr Hollingsworth live streamed the incident on Facebook and was heard yelling ‘Kids’ lives matter.’

He could be seen riding in he outside lane of the highway surrounded by motorcycle riders as he held up traffic.

The horse galloped at a constant speed of more than 10 miles per hour and peaked at 15 miles per hour, according to WLS-TV.

He was eventually taken into custody by police officers, while his horse stood patiently in a nearby grassy area.

Mr Hollingsworth, 33, was profiled by the New York Times in July and told them that he owns four horses.

He told the Times that he rides horses in Chicago “to expand people’s ideas about Black masculinity and to promote a message of unity.”

“I didn’t have my father in my life. To have a kid say I’m their hero, it melts my heart,” he told the Times.

Chicago Animal Control was called to the scene and took the animal, named NuNu, to their facility.
