Nov. 08--A man on electronic monitoring faces new charges after police went to investigate allegations that he had violated a curfew requirement and found weapons and drugs at the suspect's home, officials said Saturday.
Michael Rivers, of the 100 block of North Laramie Avenue, was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, and possession of cocaine and marijuana. He was ordered held in lieu of $75,000 bail Friday, according to the Cook County Sheriff's Office.
Rivers, 23, was arrested after investigators from the sheriff's electronic monitoring unit responded to his Austin neighborhood home after receiving a report that Rivers had violated his curfew, according to a news release issued by the office.
After investigators determined that Rivers had a "legitimate" reason to leave the home, they went to inspect the monitoring unit, according to the sheriff's office.
As the investigators were taken to the unit, they saw, "in plain view," what appeared to be crack cocaine on a plate on the dining room floor, officials said.
Investigators also found a fully loaded AK-47 assault rifle and a loaded .357-caliber revolver, according to the sheriff's office. Officials found marijuana in addition to the cocaine, officials said.
Two others were taken into custody but were not charged.
Rivers was ordered on electronic monitoring Sept. 30 as part of his bond for a pending drug case.
