'Man on bike' discovered body in bushes by shops

A 'man on a bike' discovered a body in the bushes of a busy road by shops and houses in Wirral.

People close to the small patch of wooded area on Saughall Massie Road told the ECHO how the news had shocked the local community.

Staff and customers in the local shops said they were sad to hear the news and expressed concern for the man who made the discovery.

One said: “A man on a bike had stopped and found the body.

And added: “Very sad to hear [about the body found], I hope they find their family.”

Merseyside Police confirmed to the ECHO they were now investigating the unexplained death of a man following the report of a body on land close to Saughall Massie Road and Brookside Crescent just after 11.20am this morning (Thursday, August 12).

Paramedics pronounced the man deceased at the scene, and efforts are ongoing to formally identify the man and inform next of kin.

They also confirmed that at this stage the incident is not being treated a suspicious and enquiries continue.

Police had cordoned off a part of the wooded land with police tape and scientific support were at the scene.

Officers made inquiries with the stretch of shops that line Saughall Massie Road.
