Man on 80 firearms charges has dealer's licence suspended

A Tasmanian man has been charged with dozens of firearm offences including trafficking.

Police said they have charged the 58-year-old from Ulverstone in the state's north-west with more than 80 offences following a "lengthy criminal investigation".

Among the allegations are 12 counts of possessing unregistered firearms, possessing firearms with identification marks altered or defaced, falsifying records and six counts of trafficking in firearms.

Police have seized a large quantity of firearms, ammunition and firearm parts from an address in Ulverstone.

A crossbow was also seized as part of the investigation.

The man's has had his firearms dealer's licence and personal firearms licence suspended.

He has been bailed to appear in court next month.
