- Duane Owusu, known as ‘Nasty’, has been sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 16 years and six months for the murder of 27-year-old Zahwa Mukhtar.
- Owusu fatally punched Ms Mukhtar in the neck and left her to die in the street on 16 August 2025, after throwing her from an overcrowded car following a rave.
- The incident was captured on CCTV and witnessed by Owusu’s friends, with one describing him as looking like a 'monster' before the fatal blow.
- Judge Richard Marks KC condemned Owusu's 'forceful blow' and 'callous and selfish behaviour' for refusing to seek help for Ms Mukhtar, despite pleas from his friends.
- Ms Mukhtar, who was deaf since age three, was remembered for her positive spirit, while Owusu has previous convictions, including for conspiracy to rob in a fatal stabbing, and was on bail for drug offences at the time of the murder.
