PHETCHABUN: A man and his nephew were caught with 80,000 methamphetamine pills in a police sting operation on Friday, police said.

Pol Maj Gen San Pothiraksa, the Phetchabun police chief, said at a press conference on Sunday that Ampol Pengdee, 50, and Chaiwat Pengdee, 25, his nephew, were arrested in a car park behind a coffee shop in tambon Na Ngua in Muang district.

Found in their possession were 40 bundles of 80,000 methemphetamine pills and 3.2 million baht cash they received from a police decoy. Two mobile phones and a Toyota car were also seized for examination.

Pol Maj San said the arrests of the two followed reports that they had delivered methamphetamine pills to small-scale retailers for further distribution during the New Year.

He said police will launch a crackdown on drugs and other criminal activities in the province on Dec 25 ahead of the New Year.
