Man mugged person he chatted to on night out

A man who mugged a person he talked to on a night out has been jailed.

Blaze Davies chatted to Francisco Araujo after socializing in Stokes Croft.

Bristol Crown Court heard that, after Davies latched on to him, he attacked him in a secluded spot and robbed him of £50 cash and a mobile phone.

Davies, 23, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to robbery in September last year.

Judge James Patrick jailed him for five years and three months today (January 10).

He told Davies: "You set about beating this man for three to four minutes with your fists and feet.

"He had a footprint on his his head.

"It was a sustained and very violent robbery in a public place."

Julian Howells, prosecuting, said Mr Araujo bought drinks for himself and the defendant before Davies attacked him by the floating harbour near Victoria Street.

Mr Howells said: "The victim suffered a push from behind and he fell.

"The defendant said: 'Give me everything you've got in your pockets'."

With that Mr Araujo tried to get up but received blows to his head and face and was stamped on, the court heard.

Davies then searched him, took his phone and cash and ran off.

Mr Araujo was left with swollen eyes and pain and swelling to his head as well as a split lip and cuts to his ear.

The court heard Davies had previous convictions for assault.

Alec Small, defending, said it was quite clear his client used disproportionate force.

He said Davies had had a difficult upbringing with a lack of boundaries and support, and had problems with alcohol and drugs.
