Man mistakenly receives insulting email meant for colleague after job interview

A delivery driver says he was left "gutted" and knocked of confidence after bosses accidentally sent him an email insulting him following a job interview.

Karl McCartney applied to be a delivery driver for Drive2Recruit after spotting a job advert on Indeed, and was delighted when he was offered a telephone interview.

After the interview was successful, Karl was told he would be sent a starter pack - but instead he says he received an email from his interviewer which was meant for a colleague branding him a "real chav".

It read: 'Spoke to him 28/9/20 - a real chaver - only contact him if we need a multi dropper - would be no good for bells.'

He said he was shocked by the message (Karl McCartney / SWNS.com)

Karl, who had been looking for work after being made redundant six months ago, says he felt crushed when reading the message.

"I don't know why they called me a chav," said the 25-year-old. "I didn't even meet them in person and it was just a phone call.

"I thought the interview had gone well. She said she'd send me a starter pack so they could get me sorted for jobs, but then I got this email instead. I was really shocked.

"It doesn't matter how someone is anyway - whatever way someone sets out to be doesn't affect their work. I'm a hard worker.

Drive2Recruit say they tried to resolve the issue with Karl, but he says they have ignored his messages (Karl McCartney / SWNS.com)

"I have managed to get temp work since being made redundant, but that came to an end, so I was looking on Indeed until I got this email. It's really knocked my confidence."

Karl, from Newcastle-upon-Tyne, had previously worked as a driver for UPS but was made redundant in the first few months of the coronavirus pandemic.

He ticked all the boxes of the new job requirements, being over 25 years old and having previous experience as a delivery driver.

Karl added: "I've always been in driving work. I was at UPS for two years before I got made redundant earlier this year due to the pandemic.

"I've tried to contact Drive2Recruit about the email, but they have totally ignored my emails.

"I also tried to call but the lady on the phone just said the email wasn't for me, but it clearly was as I received the email. She was very abrupt and didn't apologise at all."

Drive2Recruit declined to comment on the email and a spokesperson said they had tried to resolve the issue with Karl directly, which he denies.
