Man may have stolen two canaries from Palos Park home: police

Screen grab of camera footage showing the person police said tried to break into a home July 9, 2019, in Palos Park.

Police in southwest suburban Palos Park are looking for the person who tried to break into a home and may have gotten away with two birds.

Just after 3 a.m. Tuesday, a homeowner was awoken by the sound of glass shattering outside their home near Deerpath Lane and Mohawk Road, Palos Park police said.

The homeowner walked downstairs and noticed two of their windows were broken, police said. The homeowner then saw a man wearing a black hoodie run down Deerpath towards Mohawk.

After reviewing videos, police determined the suspect had been in the area since 2 a.m. He tried opening a patio door and entered an unlocked vehicle but took nothing from inside, police said. Two yellow Canary birds were reportedly taken from their cage on a patio.

Anyone with information on the suspect should call Palos Park police at 708-671-3770.
