Man may be deported over child sex doll

A Singapore national living in Perth could be deported after being found with child abuse material. (AAP)

A Singaporean student who imported a child-like sex doll and had a stash of child abuse material at his Perth home won't spend any time in jail.

The 27-year-old, who has been living in Perth on a student visa, admitted ordering the illegal doll from China.

Australian Border Force officers seized it at a cargo depot on Christmas Eve, 2019. About two weeks later they raided the address written on the front of the package and arrested the man.

Child abuse material was later found on a phone and computer equipment taken from his property.

The man admitted importing the child-like doll, a crime that can see offenders jailed for 10 years and fined up to $555,000. He also admitted possessing the abuse material.

But he avoided any jail time when he was sentenced in the Perth District Court on Friday, despite the judge ruling he must be put on the sex offenders register.

He was sentenced to 11 months' jail but was immediately released on a two-year good behaviour bond, border force and federal police said in a statement on Saturday.

But the convictions could see the man expelled from Australia.

His immigration status in Australia is now under review, border force said.
