A man has died after being mauled by a dog in a horror attack. Police say the 34-year-old was attacked on recreational ground in Portsmouth shortly before 10.30am on Wednesday 10 August.
Emergency services rushed to the park but the man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have arrested a 20-year-old man on suspicion of being the dog's owner and have launched an investigation into the events surrounding the death.
It is believed officers were able to capture and remove the dog from the scene. The man's family and next of kin have been informed.
A spokesman from Hampshire Police told the Mirror : "We were called to the concern for the welfare of a man at the recreation ground on Hillson Drive in Fareham at 10:25am on Wednesday 10 August. A 34 year-old man was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene by our colleagues from South Central Ambulance Service.
"His family has been informed. We are speaking to people in the area and carrying out other lines of enquiry to establish how the man died.
"As part of our enquiries a 20 year-old man from Fareham has been arrested on suspicion of being the owner/person in charge of a dog dangerously out of control causing injury resulting in death. He has been released from custody without charge but remains under investigation while enquiries continue. A dog has also been secured and removed from the scene."
