Man making threats with 'large meat cleaver' Tasered by police

A man has been arrested in Salford after they were seen making threats with a 'large meat cleaver' in a park, police say. Officers were called to Eccles Recreational Ground, in Church Street, Eccles, overnight to reports of a man making threats with a 'machete'.

He was found to be holding a 'large meat cleaver', according to police, and they refused to comply with any instructions from officers. A Taser was used to detain the man was was arrested with no injuries caused to them or any other members of the public.

A GMP spokesman said: "Specialist Operations Officers from GMP Transport Unit have responded to a report of a male making threats with a Machete in Eccles Recreational Ground on Church Street in Eccles. Officers attended and challenged the male who was holding a large meat cleaver but he refused to comply with their instructions.

"A taser was deployed and the male was detained safely with no injuries to him or members of the public. The male has been booked into one of our custody suites awaiting process in the morning.

"Our Officers run towards danger on a daily basis to keep you safe. GMP Transport Unit work tirelessly to combat criminality and are committed to ensuring a safer Greater Manchester for all."
