Man 'making graphic sexual noises' ruins mum and daughter's stay at Travelodge

A grieving mother who stayed at a Travelodge after attending a funeral  says the visit was ruined by a man 'making graphic sexual noises' in the adjacent room.

Jayne Samuels said the man in the neighbouring room made loud and graphic noises all night and banged on the adjoining wall, Surrey Live .

She claims the man, who was put up in the Walton hotel by the local council, harassed her and her 24-year-old daughter, leaving them too scared to leave their room.

The 51-year-old from Sporle in Norfolk, stayed at the Ashley Park Road hotel with her daughter from Wednesday, January 2 to Friday, January 4 while they attended the double funeral of long-time family friends.

They reported the incident to Surrey Police but the case was dropped as there was no evidence the man was targeting them personally.

She said: "This man's behaviour was very graphic and it went on and on, we couldn't sleep, it was constant.

"There was just one man in reception and nobody else could have helped us.

"It was like something out of a horror film, we felt like we could not leave our room and persecuted because we are female.

"We had just been to a funeral and the whole thing was just a horrendous experience, it was vile. And it all happened at the same time we were grieving."

Ms Samuels said that when she complained the staff member on reception told her the man "kind of lives" at the Travelodge.

"I feel that people should be aware of what is happening, it's quite incredible, the whole thing was a shock," she added.

"The way Travelodge has dealt with it has just been chaotic, the replies have been an insult," she said.

"I was offered a free night's stay with breakfast but I will never stay with them again."

Police confirmed that they were contacted by a guest staying at a hotel in Walton who "complained about loud noises of a sexual nature made by the man in the adjoining room".

A spokesman said: "While we have every sympathy with the victims, and appreciate the upset and distress this caused them, there was no evidence to suggest that the man was targeting them personally."

Elmbridge Borough Council did not provide details of the accommodation arrangements for the man but acknowledged that Ms Samuels had raised the issue.

“We were very sorry to hear about the incident at the Travelodge on January 3," the spokesman said.

"We know that Surrey Police did investigate the incident and it is our understanding that no further action was taken.

"While we cannot comment on individual cases, we have been working to review our procedures to ensure that we are carrying out our duties properly.”

When presented with all the allegations Travelodge declined to comment on the matter.

But did confirm the man is no longer staying at its Walton hotel.
