Man lured to Dundrod car hijacking by 'driver in distress' scam

A man was lured into a car hijacking in Dundrod by a scam appearing to involve another driver in distress.

The hijacking was reported in the Quarterland Road area shortly after 8pm on Tuesday.

The man was driving a silver BMW and pulled over when he saw a woman standing beside her car on the roadside with the hazard lights flashing.

When he got out of his car, he was approached by two men armed with metal bars, who threatened him before taking his car.

The car was found a short time later on fire on the Ballycolin Road in Dunmurry.

Police said anyone who may have witnessed the hijacking, seen the car or who may have dash-cam or CCTV footage that could assist with enquiries is asked to contact detectives on 101 quoting reference 1779 of 03/01/23.
