Man 'lunged at woman with metal tool' after row

A man holding a metal file threatened a woman in Bristol, a court heard.

Munar Jahad shouted at Simone Sweeney, after a disagreement, and told her "I'm going to smash up your car," Bristol Crown Court was told.

He then lunged at her stomach holding the file.

Jahad, 27, of Hyde Crescent in Hendon, London, pleaded guilty to possessing the metal file in a public place.

Judge William Hart handed him a 12-month community order with 80 hours' unpaid work and £150 court costs.

The judge told him: "You lunged at the complainant on a single occasion.

"You succeeded in causing her to be afraid.

"You pleaded guilty to that and you have not reoffended.

"You acted wholly out of character, you don't go around carrying weapons and you don't look for trouble."

Ehsanul Oarith, prosecuting, said Jahad threatened to smash up Miss Sweeney's car in Allfoxton Road in March 2020.

The court heard Miss Sweeney told him: "Do it, I know your uncle, I know your family, do your worst."

Mr Oarith said Jahad then ran at her stomach with the file in his hand.

Mr Oarith told the court: "She was scared that she or her family would get hurt."

Jahad told police the file was a tool for removing weeds.

He claimed Miss Sweeney was abusive towards him and he "saw red".

Matthew Jackson, defending, said: "There was a disagreement between the two parties.

"The case speaks for itself."
