Man who lost first partner he 'loved deeply' to suicide wants to make difference

A student who lost his first partner to suicide wants to make a difference in the field of mental health.

Gage McAlister, 24, is hoping to use his psychology degree and his own lived experience to help others who are struggling.

The Liverpool Hope University student wants to save as many people as he can from the situation he was once in.

He told the ECHO : “I’ve been dealing with mental health issues since I was a child but never really understood or realised that they were mental health problems."

Two shotguns and Samurai sword found in 'the Den' after shots fired

Two shotguns, samurai sword and drugs and ammunition recovered in Kirkby (Merseyside Police)

Police have recovered a haul of weapons and drugs after a search in Kirkby.

Officers launched the search after reports of shots fired on Tuesday, February 22.

Detective Inspector John Fitzgerald said: "I am pleased that following significant open land searches in the Kirkby that we were able to recover these weapons, which clearly could have been used to inflict injury or cause fear in our communities.

"Local community intelligence is key to us being able to make these recoveries and keep the people of Merseyside safe."

CCTV appeal after an assault in Rubber Soul bar on Mathew Street (Merseyside Police)

A man launched an attack at a victim in a Liverpool city centre bar.

The suspect punched a man in the face, knocking him to the floor, in Rubber Soul on Mathew Street.

Detectives have published images of a man they believe can help with enquiries.
