Man locks up his 96-year-old mother in her home in India 'so he can go on holiday'

A man allegedly locked up his 96-year-old mother in her house so he could go on holiday.

Sabita Nath, who lives with her eldest son Bikash in Anandapur, India, was left on her own with the door locked from the outside, relatives said.

She was rescued by her daughter almost 24 hours later, who lodged a complaint with the Anandapur police station about the incident.

"When I woke up I found they were all gone. There was no way I could contact him. I could understand their intentions, but I am too old to do anything," Ms Nath told the Times of India.

"I had a few biscuits to eat. When I tried to eat them I felt like throwing up. I did not have any energy left to go to the washroom. So, I threw up inside the room and cleaned it myself," she added.

Two of her Ms Nath's daughters apparently came for a routine visit when they noticed the door was locked.

They jumped over the wall of the house and found their mother lying in her own vomit, according to The Quint

Madan, Ms Nath’s youngest son, said he could not believe  what happened.

"We could not imagine that Bikash would do such a thing," he added.

"When my sister saw the house locked from outside, she sensed something wrong. When the door was broken we found my mother lying on her bed.”
