Man likely to face murder charge over body wrapped in carpet

Police said a post-mortem revealed the victim's death was suspicious.

A man has been arrested and is expected to be charged with murder following the discovery of a body wrapped in carpet in a suburban Adelaide backyard.

Police were called to a home on Bowmore Court at Greenwith about 7:30am yesterday after the body of the unknown man was reportedly found by teenagers at a party.

A post-mortem carried out today identified the victim as a 53-year-old.

Police declared his death a major crime after the examination indicated it was suspicious.

A 39-year-old man has since been arrested and is expected to be formally charged with murder later today, police said.

"Since the discovery, detectives … have been working with forensic specialists to establish the identity of the deceased and circumstances that led to his death," police said in a statement.

"As a result of enquires conducted this afternoon detectives … attended an address at Ridgehaven where they arrested a 39-year-old man on suspicion of murder.

"He is currently assisting detectives with their enquiries and it is expected he will be formally charged."

Police said the accused and the victim were known to one another and the incident was not believed to be random.

Bowmore Court was cordoned off yesterday as crime scene examiners tried to work out who the man was and how he died.

Neighbours said the body was wrapped in carpet and was found by teenagers attending a party at the home.

"It made me feel sick," neighbour Emily-Rose Benson said.

"It was awful for me. It twisted my stomach."

Police have urged anyone with information about the man's death to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
