Man left with 'puncture wounds to chest' after assault in Mansfield

A man was taken to hospital after reports of a 'serious assault' in a Mansfield street left him with 'puncture wounds' to his chest.

Nottinghamshire Police were called to Recreation Street, Mansfield at around 8.45pm on Wednesday, July 15 to reports a man was being treated by ambulance crews for the chest wounds as well as 'lacerations to his head'.

The victim, a 24-year-old man was then taken to Queen's Medical Centre for treatment, though his injuries are not believed to be life threatening or life altering.

Detectives are now appealing for witnesses.

Detective Sergeant Mark Shaw, who is investigating the incident, said: "Our teams have been actively investigating this incident since the time it was first reported.

"Those enquiries remain at a very early stage and we are urging anyone with any information to come forward and speak to us about this incident.

"What happened to this young man is abhorrent and we want to send a clear message that we are treating this incident seriously, that we are working hard to track down those responsible, that the case will be investigated thoroughly and that such behaviour will not be tolerated in our county.”

Anyone with any information is asked to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 758 of 15 July 2020.
