All but one of the man's friends abandoned him as Sefton Police said he was left with "potentially serious injuries."

The injured rider was taken to Southport Hospital via ambulance.

The severity of his injuries have not yet been revealed.

A spokesperson for Sefton Police said on their Facebook page: "Local Policing Team PCSO's from Southport attended Ainsdale Beach today (Sunday 18th July), in response to reports of a male injured after falling from a quad bike on the beach. Lifeguards had been first on scene to give first aid to a 34 year old male from Liverpool. Following the attendance of the ambulance service on the ground, the Air Ambulance was contacted and landed on the beach to offer more treatment at the scene.

"Despite the male being left with potentially serious injuries, apart from one person, his friends abandoned him, as Roads Policing Units arrived at the scene.

"The male was eventually felt fit enough to leave the beach in an ambulance to be taken to Southport Hospital and was not required to be airlifted from the scene.

"Great work from the RNLI lifeguards in performing potentially life-saving first aid at the scene, on a day when the beach was extremely busy and thanks to the Sefton Rangers for their assistance at the scene."
