Man left with 'potentially life-changing' injuries after he is hit by train at Neath

A man has suffered 'potentially life-changing' injuries after he was hit by a train at Neath railway station.

Emergency services were called to the station at 7.22pm on Monday evening following reports of a casualty.

British Transport Police said a man was taken to hospital and described his injuries as 'potentially life-changing but not life-threatening'. A spokesman added that the incident was not being treated as suspicious.

The incident involved the 17.11 from Milford Haven to Cardiff Central, and caused a disruption to services on all lines, with delays and cancellations to services between Neath and Cardiff.

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We were called to the Station Square area of Neath last night, Monday, April 26, at approximately 7.20pm to reports of a transportation accident. We attended scene with one rapid response vehicle, one emergency ambulance, our hazardous area response team and an urgent care doctor.

"One patient was taken by road to University Hospital Wales, Cardiff, for treatment."

Network Rail said normal train services on the line resumed at 8.45pm.
