Man left with potentially life changing injuries after being stabbed on north Manchester high street

A man is in a serious condition in hospital after being stabbed on one of the busiest roads in north Manchester tonight.

The attack happened on Bury Old Road in Cheetham Hill just after 7pm this evening (Monday).

A man in his 30s was stabbed during the incident police said.

There are unconfirmed reports from the scene that he was attacked with a machete.

He was rushed to hospital with injuries that have been described as "serious" and "potentially life-changing."

No one has yet been arrested with the police investigation into the incident in its early stages tonight.

A large police cordon remains in place on the busy thoroughfare, close to the border with Crumpsall and Salford.

Crime scene investigation teams arrived at the scene a short time ago.

And forensic officers in white suits using torches could seen placing yellow evidence markers next to items on the ground and taking photographs.

Officers are manning the cordon keeping motorists and pedestrians away with many of the businesses inside the cordon being forced to close early.

The road is currently closed between the junctions of Thomas Street and Seymour Road.

Buses are being diverted with motorists advised to find alternative routes.

In a statement, Greater Manchester Police said: "Police were called around 7.10pm today (Monday 2 August 2021) to Bury Old Road, Salford to a report of a stabbing.

"Emergency services are currently in attendance and enquiries have established a male had been stabbed.

A man in his 30s has been taken to hospital with serious and potentially life-changing injuries.

No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing.

"Anyone with information should contact police on 101 or 0161 856 5168 quoting incident number 2626 of 02/08/21.

"Alternatively details can be passed by our live web chat function at www.gmp.police.uk.

"Details can also be passed anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
