Man left with number of lacerations after brutal attack by group of men in Longford

A man was left with a number of lacerations on his legs after being attacked by a group of men in Longford Town.

The shocking incident happened outside a house in the Glebe View area at around 8.30pm on Friday night.

The victim, aged in his 20s, was rushed to Midlands Regional Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Gardai are now appealing for witnesses to the attack, and in particular are looking for information on a blue 05 Citroen C5 - which the suspects are believed to have left the area in. The car was later found burnt out between Ballycloghan and Moydow.

Investigators are also appealing for information surrounding a second car of interest - a gold coloured Nissan Almera - which was seen in the Moydow area.

A spokesman said: "Gardaí are appealing to anyone with information in relation to this incident to come forward.

"Gardaí are particularly appealing to anyone who was in the Glebe View area of Longford between 7pm and 9pm to come forward.

"They are also keen to speak to anyone in the Keel Moydow area between 7pm and 10pm, who may have seen these vehicles.

"Additionally Gardaí are appealing to any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) from the area at the time to make it available to them.

"Anyone with any information is asked to contact Longford Garda Station on 043 335 0571, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station."
