Man left with head injury after Paisley mugging

A man has been left with a large laceration to his head after being mugged in Paisley last night.

The 59 year old had removed cash from an ATM and was walking along the footpath at East Lane when he was approached from behind by a man who demanded he hand over money.

The man was then struck on the head with what he believes was a walking stick.

The thug then removed the man’s wallet from his pocket and made off with a two-figure sum of money.

The victim was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital for treatment and received stitches to the cut on his head.

Detective Inspector David Wagstaff said th attack took place at around midnight last night.

He said: “The suspect is believed to be in his 40s, is of medium build and was wearing dark clothing at the time of the robbery.

“He made off in the general direction of Tescos.

“I would ask anyone who has more information on this attack to call police on 101.”
