Man left with fractured skull following attack near pub in Blackley

Detectives are investigating after a man was brutally attacked near a pub in north Manchester.

The 44-year-old suffered serious head injuries - including a fractured skull - following the assault in Blackley on Saturday night.

Police and ambulance crews were called to Charlestown Road, close to The Charlestown pub, at around 10.35pm.

The victim was taken to hospital - his condition on Sunday morning was described as 'stable'.

A 20-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault.

He remains in custody for questioning.

Charlestown Road was taped off while investigation work was carried out.

Enquiries are ongoing.

Det Insp Jen Tattersall, of GMP’s City of Manchester division, is urging anyone with information to come forward.

She said: "A man has been left with serious head injuries, including a fractured skull, and our thoughts remain with him as he receives treatment in hospital.

"Whilst we have a man in custody who will be questioned by my team throughout the day, our enquiries are continuing and I would urge anyone with information to contact police.

"We know that a number of people were in the immediate area last night and I would appeal directly to anyone who witnessed the assault to please get in touch so we can piece together what happened."
