Man left with facial injuries in Leeds City Centre assault

A 25-year-old man was assaulted on New York Street, Leeds in the early hours of this morning (14 March).

Around 3.56am, West Yorkshire Police were called to attend the scene where the man was being treated by the ambulance service.

He reported being assaulted by an unknown suspect, possibly near the outdoor market.

The man was taken to hospital with facial injuries, but is not thought to be in a life-threatening condition.

Police cordoned off an area near the Mecca Bingo and blood could be seen on the ground.

In a statement to Leeds Live, West Yorkshire Police said: "At 3.56am today (14/3) police were contacted by the ambulance service who were attending to an injured male in New York Street, Leeds.

"The 25-year-old man had received facial injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment. His injuries were not considered life threatening.

"He reported being assaulted by an unknown suspect, possibly in the vicinity of the nearby outdoor market.

"Scenes were put in place at both locations to undergo examination and enquiries are ongoing."
